Cyrillic and Euro
fonts for X11

This work is dedicated to Mr. Troodie --the example of persistence

What's here

CYR-RFX started as a collection of cyrillic fonts for X-Window ("CYR-RFX" stands for "CYRillic Raster Fonts for X"). Now it includes several cyrillic encodings and two latin ones (both with Euro sign).

These fonts are modified (mainly with cyrillics added) versions of standard X-Window fonts from misc/ and 75dpi/.

The fonts included are all *iso8859-1 from misc/, and most important 75dpi/ ones: lu (LucidaSans), lut (LucidaSansTypewriter), tim (Times), helv (Helvetica) and cour (Courier).

Detailed description of the CYR-RFX project is available in the doc/README.en.html file.

Current status and future plans

Version 1.2 is scheduled for the end of july / beginning of august, and it will have the following features:

Current "development" version is 1.1 (-1.1 files are really changing snapshots of the pre-1.2 work). "Stable" 1.0 files are still available.

1.2 will be followed by 1.4 with New Century Schoolbook (ncen) family (exact time unknown), and 2.0 (if it will ever appear :) will include 100dpi Times and Courier.

Notes:

 (1)
Glyphs in the range 0-127 are not shown on screenshots, since this part is identical in all encodings.
 (2)
Cyrillic, single linedrawing and some special glyphs only.
 (3)
Currently the non-koi8 (ex-yugoslavian) cyrillic glyphs are present only in some fonts (including all the misc/ ones).
 (4)
Without Mac-specific glyphs like "Delta" and "infinity".
 (5)
Currently not all of the U+0400 glyphs are present, only WGL4 ones.

All the archives contain files in the form ENCODING/{misc,75dpi}/*.pcf, with user=root and group=root. So, they can be extracted with a command like

gzip -dc cyr-rfx_ENCODING-1.1.tgz | tar xf - -C /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/

Detailed installation instructions are available in the doc/INSTALL.en.txt file.

Fonts in the source (BDF) format are available in the srctgz/ dir.
